Bill Nye has created a worksheet that is supposed to answer some of the questions that he’s been asked on his show, including the one about the effects of light on us. And because I watched the first episode of his show, it was the first time that I ever saw him interact with the audience.
I was amazed when I first watched this, as a viewer myself. It was really an eye opening experience. It was also interesting to see the reaction of the man in the audience who asked the question. He wasn’t the only one in the audience who was perplexed and confused at the questions that were being asked.
One woman couldn’t believe that we were seeing so much light in the night sky and wondered how it came to be that way. Another person in the audience wanted to know if it was okay to throw things into the sky for them to see. One man stated that some day he would like to build a flying car that would take people in the sky. These are the types of questions that people ask and expect answers to.
In order to understand why it’s so bright out there, one needs to understand light itself. When light strikes something, it’s being absorbed into the material. The speed of light in a vacuum is exactly 299,792,458 meters per second, or just under nine miles per second.
Light, as you may not have heard, can also be made to do things. It can create different colors of light and bend it. It can bend the light by making it appear to be in different wavelengths of light. Some of these are visible light, which can be seen by the human eye, infrared, ultraviolet, and x-rays.
You may be wondering if the light is affecting our lives. A great many things change due to light in our daily lives. Among these things are the images that we see, such as those that we’re used to seeing on your television screen or even in a black and white photograph.
These images change due to light but also due to the changes in temperature and air pressure. The colors, for example, may appear darker or lighter depending on the source of the light.
