We watched the whole Science Cafe episode with Dr. Krauss and his chemistry workbook. The chemistry workbook was so interesting to me because it was so real and can be applied in real life situations. You see, Dr. Krauss has an amazing ability to think out of the box, and he has written several articles and books about using simple methods to solve real-life problems.

What he uses in his chemistry workbook is just basic chemistry equations and it doesn’t matter if you’re a graduate student or a doctorate student, if you’re just getting started in college or if you’ve been there a while, you’ll be able to follow what he is doing. Now, when he was doing his original calculation, which can be found in the balancing chemical equations worksheet he has on the website, he used a mixture formula to calculate the amount of sodium chloride in a solution. He wrote that down on a sheet of paper and showed us how to do it.

Now, when he made his first graphing calculator, he found it really helpful for him to have a graphing calculator in his lab. That way he could visually see that he was subtracting two things and he could quickly solve for x, y, z, as well as any unknown variables in that equation.
