“Dumbing Down” is a recent board book written by Margaret Pelham and published by Isabella Books. The authors describe it as a collection of several books which are bound into one. Margaret Pelham, who is a teacher, has also been known to be very outspoken when it comes to speaking out for what she believes in.
She has also voiced her opinions against many of the educators today which use their teaching position as a base. She had been a great leader within the science department within her school. One day, while showing a presentation on fractions, Margaret decided to go out and speak with her students about it.
She brought out the latest research and updated worksheets, which are based off of the Fraction Number Line. This board book was put together by Margaret Pelham to bring the history of fractions to younger children. She hopes that these worksheets can help her students grow up and become as educated as possible about fractions.
When she decided to go out and bring these helpful materials to the attention of other teachers, she was not expecting such a backlash from her peers. Instead of helping, they were disgusted at the books. They thought that the use of fractions would be ruining the state of education in the United States. They felt that the Fraction Number Line was actually bringing down the state of mathematics in the United States.
There are also some elementary schools and third grade levels that have actually banned these books from being used in class. One student said that she felt that the book did not need to be in the curriculum because it was already covered by other subjects. She further explained that she thought that it only talked about fractions and that there should be another subject on which these educational materials could be used. Most of her classmates agreed with her opinion.
Margaret decided to send the Fraction Number Line worksheets to a study group that she has led. These students are in grades 3 and they have never seen anything like it before. This is good news for Margaret because her peers have shown an interest in learning about fractions, which is what she set out to do.
While she has not received any complaints from parents about this book, she understands why some parents would object to it. This may be because of what her peers thought about it. Many years ago, when this book was first being published, many parents and educators felt that it was too controversial to be introduced to younger children.
Overall, Free Fraction Number Line is a great book which is informative and fun to read. It is definitely worth checking out if you want to get your kids interested in fractions.
