Gettysburg Address Worksheet

This article is about a worksheet created by the candidate for president in 1944, Franklin D. Roosevelt. It was a presidential speech that was given during the Gettysburg Address, in which FDR spoke in front of a crowd of military men, and invited them to participate in the upcoming war. Since this speech is one of the most famous speeches ever made, a Gettysburg Address Worksheet is always a good gift.

Old-time history buffs like myself think that it would be fascinating to take a look at the Presidential Address Worksheet that was given to the public. I know that we all remember that the First World War happened in Europe, and this worksheet was made to explain how the War began. The best part of the speech is that there are clear colors on the worksheet, so that the audience could see the timeline of events, and to give an idea of how long it had been since the Gettysburg Address was given. At first, I thought that the kids wouldn’t understand, but as I learned more about the poem and the speech, I realized that they got it!

Since the speech was given on a Sunday, no other public schools were in session, and kids who are old enough to attend school would have been in class. The speech was given before the families went to church, so they were not able to join in the gathering. Some of the children were left behind or simply did not come to church, because it was too late. I found it very moving that they were able to understand what was being said, and the irony that everyone missed out on the grand event because of a small problem.

If you are to give a Gettysburg Address Worksheet to your kids, you don’t need to worry about things like the political situation of the time. Since the United States has not been in a war for over eighty years, the times do not matter. Also, this worksheet teaches the importance of freedom, while reminding the children about the horrors of war, and the sacrifice that was made by their countrymen in the past.

I am not too sure if my son really understood what the address was about, but I took the time to write down some notes, so that I could listen to it at home and make sure that he understood. In fact, I ended up buying a copy of the address for my parents, and my son also liked the poem very much.

Of course, the address was given in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, but children can certainly pick it up anywhere in the country. They will be able to take it home with them and read it over. Also, children can share it with their friends, so that everyone gets a chance to hear it. You can even have your children read the poem to other children, so that everyone hears it and understands it.

Another nice thing about this worksheet is that it does not need a lot of time to read. Most children love poetry, and a Gettysburg Address Worksheet will allow them to enjoy the experience at the same time that their parents enjoy reading it. There is nothing that will give a child more pleasure than when they read a great poem, and when they take a play in verse, the feelings that they get can be priceless.

So when you want to help teach your children about the significance of the Gettysburg Address, and about what happened during the time of the speech, then you should consider a worksheet that has a poem on it. It will be a great way to not only read the poem to your children, but it will also be a great way to read the poem to anyone who wants to listen. Your children will really enjoy it, and you will as well.
