It has been mentioned many times that the Worksheet in your Excel worksheet will not be the problem. The problem may be the question, How can you make your worksheet more appealing to the eyes?
With so many online office applications and Web sites, the designers usually give priority to the looks of the application. But if your document is very long, the content should be placed to the side or top so it is not too visible. Now, that may sound impossible in a presentation but it is possible!
The best method to create eye-catching effects is to use a combination of words or pictures that can attract the reader’s eye to move a little further down the page. A trick I learned while teaching myself Java programming, is to place a bar across the top of the screen that displays what the reader is reading and what information is covered by the picture. This technique does not seem very effective, until I remembered what the movie “The Right Stuff” says about space travel. I still remember the scene when Tom Cruise’s character gets an object from the craft and the next scene shows him showing off the object.
Then, as the viewer is enjoying his or her first sight of the object, the bar automatically shifts to the right position and the object becomes on the top of the screen. The viewer continues to get excited about the objects that they have seen, until suddenly the object is put back on the bottom of the screen, just in front of the first bar, the first bar was just covering the end of the story. The viewer stops complaining about the quality of the story and starts appreciating the objects for the first time.
However, the above tip may not work well with web pages that are not oriented horizontally. So how can you use this trick when creating presentations?
The first thing to do is to consider the features of long text lines. In most cases, academic or literary works are written in a long line. Even the texts of news stories are often longer than a normal sentence.
With short texts, the eye naturally skips the long text line and goes to the object that follows. Try placing a short caption at the bottom of the screen above the image or symbol that is used.
For presentation slides, I suggest putting some attention-hungry elements, such as multimedia objects, graphics, etc. This way, the viewer will continue to keep reading when they see something new, as they need to pay attention to something new.
