Past Tense Verbs Worksheets

I’m going to share the strategies I use to develop vocabulary and sentences in vocabulary pages and sentence sheets. When it comes to vocabulary, I would say that an overwhelming majority of words are in the past tense. When I read a text it is pretty much a year old or two old at the very most. It makes sense though.

The simple answer to this is that past tense verbs are that one step away from the present tense. That is, these verbs are in the form of the verb “is”, not “was”, or “am”. Now that you know this, I think you will see why you can’t write it. The past tense can be “taken”, but it really would not make any sense in this context.

If you want to talk about it, you have to include the future tense. You can say “I will be there”, or “I am going to be there”. When you add in the future tense, you have to work harder to create a sentence that makes sense.

Well, that’s it. As you can see, you don’t even need to learn any strategy to create sentences in vocabulary. When you think about it, if you were to use some strategy to develop a vocabulary word, you would probably fall behind the pace you would need to be able to get to higher grades. As you might imagine, this is much harder to do than learn words and verbs in sentences.

The strategy to use in developing words is pretty simple. Make sentences using the verb and use them as an example of the past tense. Use the same sentence for the future tense in some cases as well. Using this way you will have words that will be in the past tense.

The strategy I use when teaching is called “drawing the same pattern on many different things” which is a long way of saying there is a pattern that you can use to create sentences in vocabulary that will be in the past tense. This strategy can also help you when you are using the past tense in a sentence. This will allow you to develop longer sentences.

However, you need to know that there are always going to be a lot of little ways that this strategy will work out better than just the perfect examples that you will see. You can also learn more about this strategy at the end of this article.
